Official First Word!!

Pin It Now! For awhile now Avery has been saying "mama" and "dada", then not too long ago she started saying "nana" and "papa" (all with meaning, saying them when someone walks into a room or when she wants someone).  She's even said "hi" a couple of times.  But I have been waiting for that true first word, a word with more than one consonant sound.  Well, Monday she started saying "dog".  I wasn't sure at first, she said it during the day so I was the only one home to hear it.  But I swore I heard her say "dog" (sounds like "dag", but definitely has the /g/ at the end) and point when she saw the dogs after nap.  That evening when Eric was home she said it again and he thought it was dog also.  But what finally sealed the deal was when my parents were over on Wednesday night and my dad let the dogs in from outside, as they ran past, Avery pointed and said "dog".  My dad looked at me and asked, "Did she just say dog?"  Then when mom got there she did it again and mom asked the same thing.

So it's official, we have a first word and what a good one it is!  We are such dog people that her saying dog for her first word is perfect!  Before I know it she'll be talking me ear off!

  1. YAY Avery! So cute! That's a great "real" first word :)

  2. I love a good milestone story!!
    What a happy day.
    Enjoy the weekend

  3. So exciting! Many more chats to come! What kind of dog do you have? I'm a huge dog lover! Have a great weekend!

  4. Thanks! I was pretty excited! Jill, we have two bichons, one girl, Cori, and a boy, Leo. They are actually brother and sister but from two different litters. Leo is about to turn 5 and Cori is almost 4.

  5. How fun! My little boy is taking a while to talk--he doesn't want to give up on his own baby language. Still, every now and then he surprises me with some new vocab words. Yesterday he said "ball"--it sounded a little more like "baw", but hey, I'll take it! It's so much fun to hear their little voices!

  6. Woo hoo Avery! Now just make sure she practices it, because if she's anything like Rylen was, she'll forget how to say it and next thing you know she's calling a doggy a "daddy" lol

  7. Thanks Annette and Jenn! LOL about the "daddy"/"doggy" thing! Luckily she is saying it ALL the time, so she is definitely getting plenty of practice.

Annette, Avery's dog isn't perfect either but as you said, I'll take it!
