Our First Sensory Bin

Pin It Now! I decided to try out my first theme this week (St. Patrick's Day) and wanted to make a sensory bin to go along with it.  So, here it is...

Here is what is in the sensory tub:
- Green and yellow split peas
- Gold coins
- Green shamrock necklace
- Large flattened green marbles
- Green and yellow glitter pompoms
- Shamrock erasers
- Shamrock cookie cutter
- Green ice cream scoop
- Green pots
- Green "funnel" (2 liter with the bottom cut off)
- I also got out 2 extra containers, one a large rectangle and one a tall round one, that way she has something to scoop and pour into

Avery has had such a great time playing with the St. Patrick's Day sensory bin!  She loves scooping, pouring, and just checking everything out.

She loves the sound the necklace makes when she shakes it and she loves to wear it

She loves how her vice sounds through the funnel
She loves how her hand feels in the split peas
So there you have it, our first sensory bin.  It's been a pretty big hit around our house.  We've played with it every day this week and I have a feeling we will continue to get it out.

  1. Awesome! I've been wanting to make one of these for Nate but keep envisioning the mess that will result. How is Avery with keeping everything on the sheet? Nate loves to throw so I just picture little beans and beads in every corner of the house. :)

  2. Thanks, Shoni! I had a lot of fun putting it together. We started out with just a bean tub with a couple scoops and bowls (I'm not really counting that as a sensory bin though since that's all it had in it). We worked really hard on teaching her to keep everything in it and if she threw it everywhere she had to pick it up. If she got to crazy or uncooperative we would give her a warning and if she continued we would put it away. I've seen some people who don't mind the throwing and just put down a blanket or sheet and let them go crazy. Just not my thing though, as you said I don't want to be finding things all over the house for months to come

  5. Ooh! What a great idea. I may have to try this - I'll have to start small though and make sure it doesn't turn into a mess!
