Progress

Pin It Now! Oh the ups and downs of having a new baby!  I mentioned that Parker would only nap when we were holding her, well I didn't give up and we have finally gotten her to take a couple naps in her swing, still no luck in her crib or co-sleeper.  Over the weekend it just started happening.  It's still not every nap but I will take what I can get.  On Saturday she took 2 naps in her swing, Sunday 1, Monday 1, Tuesday and Wednesday none, and today 2.  Each one lasts about an hour and a half to 3 hours.  So at least now we know she can do it!  Yay!  It's been so nice, too, cause it's given me some time to spend with Avery.  LOVE that!  We've played games, read books, and done some art projects.  A couple of times it's even happened when Avery was napping so I had some time to myself, HEAVEN!!!  I'm not going to count on it happening all the time but any little break I can get is nice!

On top of that, she's stretched out her night time sleep to about 3 hours at a time and is only getting up twice a night.  Yay, LOVE that, too!  Plus I've been pumping and Eric has been taking some of the nighttime feedings.  I don't get enough to do it every night but he takes one feeding for 2 nights and then takes 1 night off.  So, I'm definitely getting more nighttime sleep.  Ahhh, sleep!!!

The Move to the Big Girl Bed

Pin It Now! So Avery has now been in her big girl bed for almost 2 weeks.  I was actually surprised by how smoothly it went.  We had planned on moving her into the room and bed on Friday, June 24 but Eric won a big award at work so I took him out to celebrate that night and we pushed the big switch back to Saturday night instead. We kept the bed time routine as close to the old one as possible.  Eric and I both gave her a bath and brushed her teeth.  Then we headed into her big girl room where I said good night and gave her lots of cuddles, hugs, and kisses.  Once I said good night and left the room it was only her and Eric.  He got her all lotioned up and in her PJs.

Now, this is where the routine had to change a little.  Before, they would sit down in the glider and read 2 books. Since there is no glider in the new room they had to read sitting in her bed.  Once they were done it was cuddle time.  Once again, this usually happened on the glider but instead had to happen on her bed.  She needed a little more cuddle time with daddy than usual but handled it all really well.  After the cuddling, he got up, told her he loved her and good night.  He never actually mentioned staying in the bed or anything.

It took her a while to fall asleep that night, about an hour.  But she never cried or anything, just talked and played in bed.  The whole time Eric and I sat glued to the monitor listening for sounds of her getting up from bed.  We were sure we would have to go in there a ton of times and put her back to bed.  However, she did not get out of her bed one time!!!  We were amazed!!!

The next morning we heard her making noise and went into her room, once again convinced that she would be up and out of bed playing in her room.  However, there she sat on her bed, quietly talking and playing with the toys she sleeps with (Seahorse, Baby, and Lamb Lovey).  Once we went in, she told us she wanted to get up from bed, so we picked her up and cuddled her for minute, just like in her old room.

And that is pretty much how it has gone ever since, for both nap and bed time.  It's almost like she doesn't realize she can get out of bed on her own, even though she does it all day long when we are playing in there.  For some reason when it's time to sleep she forgets that she can get in and out by herself.  We got so lucky!!!

Phew!

Pin It Now! What a crazy, long couple of weeks it has been!  I have missed doing personal posts but just have not been able to find the time with all the craziness.  It started when Avery got sick and it totally messed up her sleeping (which is when I do most of my blogging).  She started taking very short naps because she would wake herself up coughing and sneezing.  That lasted about a week and a half, a very long week and a half!

Right after she got better, we were off to my sister and brother-in-laws for our first of 2 Thanksgivings.  We had a great time hanging out with my family and had an incredible meal.  Each Thanksgiving we have have the exact same meal because no one wants to mess up perfection.  : )  We have turkey, Grandma D's stuffing, Grandma P's Waldorf salad, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, and creamed corn.  This year for dessert my mom made an incredible chocolate bread pudding.  It was really easy and absolutely delicious!

When we got back things didn't slow down a bit.  We had a couple playdates and my mom had to have oral surgery.  Since my dad had to work, she came over to our house each day so I could take care of her.  It was pretty rough at the beginning but she's doing much better now.  Eric also had to have some dental work done, he chipped a tooth and ended up having to have a crown put on.  Nothing to serious but still not fun.

In more exciting news, Avery is now officially a walker!  Before this past Tuesday, she would take steps here and there but she would always fall down and then end up crawling the rest of the way.  Her most up until that point was about 10 steps or so.  However, Tuesday it just seemed to click and all of a sudden she walked from her bedroom, down the hall, through the living room, into the kitchen, and ended up in the dining room by the windows into the backyard, all without falling down.  Since that point she has been a walking machine!  She wants to walk everywhere!  It is so fun and exciting to watch but has definitely made life more interesting.  I am having to constantly chase her around the house, she doesn't want to sit still for long at all.

Thursday we went to my in-laws and celebrated Thanksgiving with them.  It was a nice, relaxing time and I loved that I didn't have to do any of the cooking (except for the red velvet cake I made the day before for dessert, a special request from my sister-in-law for her birthday which was the 22nd).  Avery had a great time running all around Grammy and Grandpa's house!

Luckily things have started to settle down but I'm sure it won't be for long with Christmas right around the corner and barely any of my shopping done.  But I don't mind cause I love this time of year!  I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Who Is This Child?

Pin It Now! It all started Friday night.  Avery did not want to go to bed.  She fussed during her feeding and when we put her in her crib she did not want to go to sleep.  Luckily, she didn't cry or anything, just kind of laid in her crib, talked to herself, and played with her seahorse and lamb.  It took her almost a half an hour to fall asleep.  Very unusual for her, she's usually asleep within 10 minutes or so.  However, that night she slept great and didn't wake up the next morning until about 7:10 (yep, that's right she dropped her night time feed almost 2 weeks ago, I didn't say anything cause I didn't want to jinx it).  The next day the same thing happened at her naps.  She's not always the best napper and it sometimes takes her longer to fall asleep for naps then bedtime, but it was worse then usual.  One nap it took her an hour to fall asleep!  But once again, no crying or fussing, just laying there, playing and talking.  I didn't worry too much about it, especially since she was still in a great mood when she was awake.  Things continued like this all weekend, having trouble falling asleep but sleeping well when she finally did.

Then Monday rolled around.  Naps continued as they had all weekend but then suddenly she got grouchy. Very grouchy!  Nothing I could do made her happy, she whined and cried all. the. time!  Ok, that might be a bit of an exaggeration but she whined and cried a lot.  She could go from being a happy baby to being a miserable one in the blink of an eye.  If I told her not to do something or took something away, you'd think it was the end of the world the way she cried.  And going out in public was the worst!  She usually loves going out and running errand with me.  Everyone always comments on what a happy baby she is.  Well, not this week.

And to make it worse, she has started waking up during the night again.  Ugh!  Monday night she woke up once about 4 am, not too bad but I was so enjoying being able to sleep all night.  Then Tuesday she woke up 3 times; 1 am, 3 am, and 6 am.  Made for a long night!  Last night Eric was such a sweetheart and slept out on the couch with the monitor so I could get some sleep (God I love that man!).  It was so nice!  However, she woke up 2 times last night, 1 am and 5 am.  I really hope this doesn't last too long!

I'm not sure what is going on with her.  Maybe teething, a growth spurt, close to walking, or there could be no reason at all, just typical baby crankiness.  Needless to say I am exhausted from it all.  Let's just say I have eaten a lot of chocolate!!

A Lot of Randomness

Pin It Now! Things are crazy here and I have all kinds of thoughts running through my head so I figured a totally random post was in order. However, I will divide it up into categories for you!

The Party
Doing well on that front.  Finished the cupcake stand and photo banner (even though I ran out of ribbon and had to go get more).  I didn't finish my other project with the polka dots and haven't decided if I'm going to or not.  Yesterday I deep cleaned the whole basement (playroom/family room, guest room, and bathroom) and today I plan on tackling the master bed and bath.

Tomorrow I'm going to do a test run of the cupcakes for two reasons.  First, I want to see how the rainbow color thing works out.  Second, so many of my friends have had mixed reactions  from their kids the first time they are given cake (some are totally scared, others don't know what to do, etc) that I want to have Avery try it first without all the pressure of tons of people watching her!  Wednesday night is the evening my parents come over for dinner each week so I thought that would be the perfect time to give it a shot.  Hopefully then at her party she will know right what to do and we'll get some great photos...or not, who knows!

One thing that I forgot to mention in my last post was that I do have a great birthday outfit for Avery.  I wanted something custom made so I looked around Etsy but couldn't find exactly what I wanted.  So I got on fabric.com and found the perfect fabric. It has polka dots in the exact colors of the decorations.  So then I got back on Etsy and did an alchemy.  Never did one of those before but you submit a request for anyone that would be willing to make you a custom item and you explain what you want.  I had a bunch of people respond, picked one out, and she made us the most darling outfit.  It is perfect and didn't cost as much as I thought it would.  So excited about it!

Sleep
Since Eric got back from SF, Avery's sleep has been great (knock on wood).  Three nights she has slept until 6:30 or 6:45, I give her a quick 10-15 minute feeding and then put her back in her crib until 7:15/7:20.  She usually doesn't fall back asleep but plays quietly.  Well, this morning she slept until 7:10, which is almost her wake up time anyway.  I was so excited!  Now, if only I could sleep through the night!  Haha!  I find myself starting to wake up at about 4:30 or so (which is when she usually wakes up for a feeding) and then sleep restlessly, waking every 30 minutes or so, until it's time to get up.  This morning I couldn't fall back asleep after 6:30 and finally gave up at 7:00.  Oh well, that too will come!

However, as much sleep as she got last night, she was one grumpy girl this morning, which is not like her at all.  She was whiny, cried a lot, and very clingy.  Not sure what was going on there, as I sit here while she's at nap, I'm wondering if she might be teething.  She almost 1 and still doesn't have a single tooth so it could very well be that.  When she gets up I'll see how she is doing and might give her a teething tablet if she's still cranky.

A Great Loss
Yesterday morning Eric's former boss and the father of his best friend past away (we'll call him J for this post).  He'd been living on machines for the the past month after having multiple strokes.  He was an incredible man and will be greatly missed.

Eric and I owe so much to him!  Eric got his degree in finance but has always had a passion for computers.  J knew this and when he started looking for an IT person for his company, he hired Eric even though he had no experience.  It was a small company and Eric was the only IT person there so he got to have complete control over everything.  J let him do a lot and he experimented with some very cutting edge concepts.  Due to all the experience J gave him, Eric was offered another job that paid twice what he was making and as hard as it was to leave, Eric knew it was what was best for our family.  J completely supported Eric and was so happy for him. They even gave him a PS3 for a going away present.  If it hadn't of been for J, Eric never would have gotten his job and I never would have been able to stay home with Avery.  Like I said, we owe him so much!  He was such a wonderful man!

I have many more things running through my head but I won't bore you anymore and plus I think I hear Avery starting to wake from her nap.  Off to make lunch and then run some errands.  Hope you have a great week!

What a Week

Pin It Now! Avery and I have had a great week (for the most part) while Eric has been gone, though we have missed him a ton.  We've actually stayed pretty busy which has helped it to go by quickly.  Monday we ran the errands for the week, grocery store and Target.  Tuesday we went shopping for some new clothes for Avery, she's about to start wearing 12 to 18 month clothing and didn't have too many.  From all the baby showers we were pretty well taken care of until this point so I got her quiet a few things.  We went to Children's Orchard, which I love.  In case you don't know what it is, it's a used clothing store for kids (they also have some toys).  I got her 3 outfits, 2 jeans, and 4 shirts all for about $50, way less then I would have paid in a regular store and I got great brands in wonderful condition.  Love a good deal! Wednesday we went to a friends house for lunch and Thursday we had a play date with our playgroup.  However, I am not looking forward to today's errand, heading to the DMV to get our new car licensed and the tax paid!  UGH!!  I waited until after the end of the month for this one so hopefully it won't be too bad.

I said we had a great week for the most part because the nights haven't been going as well as they usually do.  Avery goes to bed at about 7:45 and usually only gets up once a night for a quick feeding around 4 or 5 in the morning and then goes back to sleep until 7:15 or so.  Not sure what is going on this week (Eric gone, approaching a new milestone, sleep regression, etc.) but it has not been going that smoothly.  She goes down great but 3 of the 5 nights she has gotten up at 1 am and has not wanted to get back to sleep.  Sunday she stayed up for 1 hr and 50 min, Tuesday she was up for 1 hrs, and Wednesday she was up for 1 hr and 10 min.  UGH!!!  Eric being gone has made it especially hard since I have to do it all by myself.  Needless to say I've been a little tired this week!  Luckily it hasn't effected naps or her mood at all, which has been nice.  I really hope that once Eric gets back today things will go back to normal.  We'll have to wait and see how it goes tonight!

A Good Plan

Pin It Now! Eric and I have decided that there is no point in both of us having to get up early on the weekend.  So yesterday morning, I got up with Avery at 7:30 and let him sleep in and then this morning he got up with her and I slept in.  It was WONDERFUL!!  I slept until 8:30, which a year ago would have been early for a Saturday but today was heaven!  Avery only gets up once a night for a quick feeding (at about 4 or so) but man was it nice to stay snuggled up in bed and get an extra hour of sleep.  We are definitely going to be doing that again!
